Since it’s been up and running now for almost 6 months, I figured it was time to share a post about my new business, Wellness at Work! Wellness at Work is a health + wellness job site that’s based in Boston, and currently highlights job openings across New England. Jobs from a variety of categories are featured, and you can find positions at fitness studios, healthy restaurants, juice shops, clean beauty retailers, and more.
The mission is to connect employers in the industry with job seekers who are passionate about wellness, and ultimately assist applicants in finding jobs that they care deeply about. To aid this effort, job seekers can browse by terms that might be important to them, like “vegan brand” or “gluten free.”
The idea for the site came after my own wellness journey. After several years of chronic joint swelling (70 cc’s of fluid on my knee) which resulted in many, many doctor’s visits and increasingly scary medication, I decided to take my health into my own hands.
Desperate, and willing to give anything a shot, I cut out gluten (at Kyle’s suggestion). Within 4 days the swelling massively decreased. I found out that removing gluten and dairy had an unbelievable impact — and within days. Not a single one of my doctors mentioned anything about diet. It seems that they were only interested in treating the symptom instead of trying to figure out the root cause of the issue. As a total tangent, if you’re ever having chronic medical issues, I urge you to place faith in yourself and to take responsibility for your health. Society reveres doctors and teaches us to put our health completely in their hands, but no one knows your body like you do, and the sad fact is that most doctors receive little to no training in nutrition.
Ok, whew! Back to my journey! In a year I read everything I could get my hands on about nutrition, gut health, celiac, and more. I embraced a new way of eating and living and became obsessed with the transformative power of diet. Having overhauled my lifestyle and immersed myself in the Boston wellness scene, I knew this was a passion that wasn’t going to fade. I knew that I wanted to spend my days working in wellness – to assist the growth of the industry AND to connect others to their purpose. Realizing that there was a major need for a wellness focused job site, I decided to build the site I envisioned — and started immediately.
Now Wellness at Work is up and running and we’ve been lucky to feature jobs from some of Boston’s best wellness companies including Cambridge Naturals, B/SPOKE Studios, JH Wellness, Mother Juice, Life Alive, and more. It’s such a blessing to be able to connect people to work that they’re passionate about and makes them come alive. Life is too short to be suffering in a job that’s not the right fit! My hope is that Wellness at Work can be a resource for those who want to work in the wellness industry, and my goal for 2018 is for 100 or more job seekers find work through the site.
Do you have a wellness journey of your own? Are you looking for work in the industry? I’d love to hear your story!
