While it’s very nice to “get” on Valentine’s Day, it’s just as fun to give. Guys can be difficult to shop for so I enlisted the help of Philip Saul, owner of Sault New England in Boston’s South End. He has curated his top 6 picks from the store that any guy would be lucky to receive!
Sault is one of those stores that floods you with inspiration the moment you step in. It offers a New England vibe that’s rustic yet refined. Full of treasures both new and vintage, everything is curated down to the tiniest detail.
The store is filled with beautiful small touches like hand stamped tags and letterpress business cards. It makes it easy to find a gift with a personal feel. Here’s what Philip suggests for the upcoming holiday…
1. Flasks with fun phrases $28 – $32
I love these cheeky flasks which are engraved with phrases like “Three Sheets to the Wind,” “Put Some Hair on Your Chest,” and my personal favorite, “The Hell with Work.” Pair one of these with a bottle of locally made Bully Boy Whiskey and you’ve got a great gift.
2. Ursa Major Natural Skincare & Shaving products $22 – $36
These natural personal care products made in Stowe, Vermont make grooming a little more baller. The line cuts out harmful chemicals, uses fresh and natural ingredients, and is gluten free, vegan, and uses no animal testing. Pair the face wash, toner and shave cream to create a skincare “kit.”
3. Forage Haberdashery Ties & Bow Ties $74
I’m a total sucker for ties and Forage has especially stunning fabrics and patterns. Each collection is made in limited numbers so if you like a certain tie you have to act quickly. Their packaging is made of recycled materials here in the US and then hand stamped. What’s not to love?
4. Jack Spade iPad case $185
You can’t go wrong with the Spades (Jack or Kate) when it comes to gifts! Jack Spade pieces are well made and durable enough to last a lifetime. I love the clean preppy design of this iPad case. It’s a classic that won’t go out of style.
5. Sailormade Bracelets $89 – $98
Sailormade uses braided sailing rope and brummel hook fastener. They look great when stacked in sets of 3 or more and are a great reminder of the New England summer to come.
6. Jack Spade Anchor Bill Holder $95 – $125
Another stylish and functional Jack Spade product is the Anchor Bill Holder. Embossed cowhide leather is complemented by a vintage sailor print lining (which I unfortunately didn’t think to get a photo of). Personally I love the traditional brown leather, but the colors are fun too.
I’m happy to say I found my Valentine’s Day gift for Kyle at Sault! I won’t show you what it is just yet since I want it to be a surprise for him…but I promise to share after the 14th. If you aren’t able to make it to Sault before this holiday be sure to take your guy friends, boyfriends, husbands and fathers there this spring and let them embrace their inner sailor, woodsman, and GQ model. Philip has a ton of new inventory on the way that I can’t wait to check out.
Whether it’s Sault New England, or another shop I hope you show your local stores some love this Valentine’s Day!
Um that’s the most adorable store ever! I will pop in for sure when I need to pick the boy up something manly (& cute, but don’t tell him that).
You’ll want to take everything in the store home. We’ll stick with manly 😉
