Pastel, ponies, and florals? That’s the kind of party you can count me in for. I’m the kind of girl who can get into a theme party, especially if it involves a little crafting. With plans to attend the Derby Day celebrations at The Charlesmark Hotel I set out to transform my beach hat into something with a little more panache.
Just a few fake flowers from Michael’s hot glued on to a ribbon did just the trick to upgrade my hat for the day. I like going with the traditional floppy hat, but I saw so many creative hats and headpieces throughout the day that I think I’m inspired to change it up for next year!
Kyle was a great sport and got dressed up for the occasion too. He went with a gingham button down, pink tie, shorts and Sperrys. Definitely not his everyday attire, but he wore it well!
Dressed and ready, we headed downtown to The Charlesmark in search of a mint julep. Entry to the event was free with RSVP and guests who arrived between 4:00 – 5:00 pm received a complimentary derby drink. The staff was incredible and the instant we walked in the door we had juleps and race bet sheets in hand.
Vineyard Vines provided swag for the party including the julep drink glasses. I love the little blue bow ties on the cups and how cute are the pink whale straws!?
The Charlesmark is known for their signature Gummy Bear martinis and the ladies were happy to indulge. It’s hard to deny vodka infused gummies.
While the ladies enjoyed martinis, Kyle sipped on bourbon and we all cheered on the horses! I bet on Charming Kitten, just because of the name. Our friend chose Orb, the winning horse, and won a gift certificate to the Charlesmark. We had a great time watching the derby and I’ll definitely be headed back!
On a more somber note, The Charlesmark is located at 665 Boylston Street and is one of the businesses that’s been heavily affected by the Boston Marathon bombings. This was the second event we got to attend there in the past week and I’m so happy to be able to support a fantastic business in Back Bay.

Thanks Abby! It was such a fun event and I think it’s going to be a nice partnership. Hope you had a great weekend!
How fun! I am dying over those VV glasses.
I know! I wish I could have taken 50 of them home with me. The whale straw was lost on the journey home 😦
Wow, super fun event!
All of the details were spot on. If you’re in the area you should definitely give one the gummy bear martinis a try!
